Kiel University’s guest houses are where international researchers reside during their limited stays at the University, whether they are in Kiel to teach, do research or undergo specialised training. With the grand opening of its new guest house as of 1st September 2008, Kiel University can now has more than three guest houses that provide a total of 74 residential units containing 120 beds in a choice location in Kiel.
The Guest House for international scientists and academics was the first Guest House of Kiel University built in 1974 on a beautiful estate in the wooded Düsternbrook neighbourhood, directly on the fjord. In 2008, an extension was built on the huge lawn of the Guest House.
The Internationales Begegnungszentrum/IBZ, which opened on 1st November 1989, became the second Guest House of Kiel University. Its location is one of the most beautiful in Kiel, directly on the fjord and still within walking distance of the centre of the city.
