Get off to a good start! Introduction to German Academic Culture

What is it about?

Studying abroad is an enriching experience for any student, but it is far more than just a shift from one place to another. The initial euphoria of being fascinated by distinct cultural perspectives can fade away after the initial `honeymoon phase´ and the added pressure of being immersed in a different academic culture can lead to stress and disappointment.

This webinar provides you with knowledge on basic assumptions, communication conventions and expectations of German academic culture. Learn more about culture shock and reflect on your own academic experiences to ensure a smooth start at Kiel University.

When?
  • Friday, March 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or
  • Thursday, April 1 from 9:30 a.m. to  12:30 p.m.

Time management and Self-organization

What is it about? How can I organize my studies effectively in Germany? How can I use my time meaningfully to avoid stress? How do I strive a work-study-life balance for myself?
During your studies at Kiel University you will be required to organize your work independently which means you will have to be self-disciplined and use your time effectively. The purpose behind planning and organizing your time is not to make you a slave to your schedule, but to free you from unwanted frustration and anxiety. The aim of this webinar is to help you to recognize your time wasters, aim and organize your time effectively and get introduced to useful self-management tools to organize yourself during your study abroad. Learn how to take control and make things happen rather than things happen to you!
