Welcome to Kiel

Dear Incomings,

we are glad that you decided to make your internship in our city! On this webpage you'll find all the information you need to arrange your coming to Kiel!

The closest airport to Kiel is Hamburg airport, which is about 90 kms away . The easiest way to come to Kiel from Hamburg airport is to take a special shuttle bus Kielius. Following the link you'll find information about timetables and prices.

You can come to Kiel by train from all German cities with Deutsche Bahn. You can even come to Kiel by train from some close European countries such as Denmark, Poland, France, Netherlands, Belgium.

You can come to Kiel by bus from Berlin with Berlinlinie (unfortunately the link is only in German). But here is the timetable and prices.

Once you arrive to Kiel to its main train station (Hauptbahnhof in German) or main bus station (ZOB in German) our IAESTE member will pick you up and bring you to your accommodation.

IMPORTANT: In order to be picked up from the main train or bus stations in Kiel, you have to contact us in advance and provide us with all the details regarding your arrival (these include mean of transport, arrival time and date, the place you arrive to - train station or bus station).

Our IAESTE LC Kiel helps incoming interns to find accommodation in Kiel. We can provide you with a place in a student dormitory or find you a private accommodation. The rent in the different student dormitories varies between € 180 and € 300 per month. Please note that you will have to pay a deposit of € 250 in advance. Private apartments are usually more expensive. A lot of times you will also be asked to pay high deposits and brokers’ fees.

We can discuss different possibilities of your accommodation once you contact us. Please do it well in advance.

You can check  visa requirements for IAESTE trainees in Germany on the official web page of  IAESTE Germany. Nevertheless if you are not a resident of European Union or the European Economic Area, it is necessary that you inform yourself at the German Embassy, as the requirements for the receipt of a visa might vary. You should inform yourself about all the requirements well in advance, as applying for a visa (in case you need it) will take some time.

Life in Kiel

Our members of IAESTE LC will try to make your time here in Kiel as pleasant and comfortable as possible. For this we will be always available for any questions you might have. Additionally we will try to find you an IEASTE-Buddy - a person who would be your local guide here in Kiel and who could help you with getting around the city and arranging your life here.

We plan as well to arrange some trips and events for our Incomings, so that you get to know each other and us as a commitee.

We'll keep you updated!

By now you can click on the slideshow to the right and see some pictures of our city, so that you get an idea of how it looks like :
