Short summary After an overview over historical monetary policy developments, the lecture discusses simple theoretical foundations of the open economy policy environment. We continue with the theory of optimum currency areas with a particular focus on the recent euro area experience. International monetary policy measures include international policy coordination, central bank intervention, target zones and currency boards.
