Recommended requirements The lecture aims at providing students of English and American literatures with a basic understanding of literary history. Basic terminology of literary studies is thus required.

Course Content Tracing the development and representation of consciousness in literary texts through time, the lecture provides a survey of British literary history. Participants will be introduced to exemplary texts from Shakespeare to Postmodernism.
