This workshop is intended for students who have little or no experience in writing papers in English. On the other, it is intended to teach you how to prepare and hold a presentation in English.

The following points will be covered:

Course contents:

  • Cultural and stylistic features of academic writing
  • Punctuation
  • Choosing precise words and phrases for your paper
  • How to write a paragraph and a chapter
  • How to write different parts of a thesis
  • Editing your work
  • Compiling a bibliography
  • Typical errors made during the writing process


  • Opening and closing a talk
  • Visual Aids
  • Body language
  • Dealing with questions and answers

Aims: At the end of the course you will know how to organize and structure a paper and hold a presentation in English. You will have much more confidence, be more concise and clear when writing and presenting in English. Additionally, you will also be able to recognize your typical errors and generally have improved both your style of writing and presentation.

Requirements: In order to get the most out of this course, please take into consideration that this will be a highly active course and you will be expected to prepare work outside of the course. Before the course commences, you will be asked to submit a short statement on a given topic (ca. 200 words). You will also hold a short presentation in English and submit a short paper or review of a book from your scientific field.
