FAQs: Corona – application and enrolment winter term 20/21

The coronavirus pandemic has affected some procedures at Kiel University. You can find the most important answers to frequently questions concerning application and enrolment here.

The FAQs will be updated regularly (last updated June 18th, 2020).

 

Do I have to apply via uni-assist despite the coronavirus pandemic?

Yes, uni-assist still provides its services. Further information about uni-assist can be found here:

Do I have to send certified copies to uni-assist?

For the winter term an online-only application possible for all degree programmes, except medicine/dentistry/pharmaceutical studies.

This means that you can simply submit your application electronically via the uni-assist online portal.

Important: The CAU reserves the right to request originals or certified copies at a later date.

 

For applications for the study programmes medicine/dentistry/pharmaceutical studies, certified copies are still mandatory.

 

Due to limited postal services, I am unable to send my documents by post. What should I do?

For the winter term an online-only application is possible for all degree programmes, except medicine/dentistry/pharmaceutical studies.

For applications for the study programmes medicine/dentistry/pharmaceutical studies, certified copies are still mandatory.

 

When does the application period end?

The application deadlines for the winter term 2020/21 may vary, depending on the subject.

  • For medicine/dentistry/pharmaceutical studies the deadline remains July 15th
  • The deadline for all graderestricted programs is August 1st
  • The deadline for all programs without restriction (including the German course) is August 20th.

I am a refugee and live in Germany. Are there any specific details I should observe?

The application processes for prospective students with a refugee background are equal to the process for all other international applicants. If you live in Kiel and/or have already had your certificates checked by the International Center, please contact Ms. Paulina Borzyszkowski. A direct application might be possible.

Can I apply for the preparatory German course in the winter term?

Yes, you can already apply for the preparatory German course via the online portal of uni-assist.

 

My language exam has been postponed/cancelled. Can I apply without a proof of language skills?

You can apply for all degree programmes, except medicine/dentistry/pharmaceutical studies, without a proof of language proficiency. The language certificate must be submitted at the latest by the time of enrolment.

 

If you are applying for the degree programs medicine/dentistry/pharmaceutical studies, the required language certificates must be submitted to uni-assist by the end of the application period.

When does the enrolment take place? Do I have to enrol personally?

The registration for the winter term 2020/21 will be conducted electronically via email. In case you receive an admission further details will be included within the admission email you will receive from the International Centre. Documents for registration can be sent from September 1st until October 15th.

When does the winter term 2020/21 start?

The next winter term starts November 2nd, 2020 and ends February 26th, 2021. (Examination weeks: February 15th to February 2nd, 2021. The week before the lecture period begins (October 26th to October 30th, 2020) can be used by lecturers, for example, as a preparation week and for voluntary introductory programmes with tutors.

Will the winter term be an online term?
